Giuliano Mazzoccante to Bring His Distinctive Artistry to the Festival

Born in Chieti, Italian pianist Giuliano Mazzoccante has established himself as an accomplished concert pianist and musician, combining a distinguished career as a performer with extensive experience in chamber music, opera, and classical dance.

Mazzoccante began his piano studies under the guidance of Lucia Passaglia at the Conservatory “L. Cherubini” in Florence, where he graduated with highest honours. He subsequently continued his artistic development through a three-year piano perfection course at the Accademia Musicale Umbra, receiving a Diploma of Excellence.

His musical education was further enriched through international masterclasses and collaborations with some of the most distinguished figures in the classical music world. He participated in the International Master Classes in Klaipeda, Lithuania, held by the legendary pianist Lazar Berman, deepening his concert repertoire with particular emphasis on the music of Franz Liszt. He also continued his studies at the European Academy of Music in Erba, while specialising in chamber music at the International School of Chamber Music in Duino under the guidance of the renowned Trio di Trieste, where he received a Diploma with Merit.

Throughout his career, Mazzoccante has been recognised at numerous national and international competitions. His awards include prizes at the M. Clementi Competition in Florence, Agorà 80 in Rome, the F. Liszt Competition in Lucca, and the Città di Stresa Competition. In 1997, he won Second Prize at the T.I.M. – International Music Tournament, followed by the prestigious Prix Venice in 1998. He subsequently received Second Prize at the Ecomusic International Competition in Monopoli in 1999 and, in 2002, became the winner of the 40th International Piano Competition “Arcangelo Speranza” in Taranto. In 2009, he was also awarded at the 4th International Tbilisi Piano Competition in Georgia, a competition recognised by the World Federation of International Music Competitions.

Mazzoccante's artistic career extends beyond the traditional concert stage. His musical experience has been enriched by important collaborations in classical dance and opera, including work with teachers from Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Royal Academy of Dance in London, and the Paris Opera. These collaborations have allowed him to develop a broad understanding of the relationship between music, movement, theatre, and dramatic expression.

For several years, he was also closely associated with the Teatro dell'Opera di Chieti, where he worked as a pianist alongside internationally renowned singers and theatrical directors. This experience enabled him to explore the vast repertoire of opera and further develop his versatility as a musician and collaborative pianist.

A musician deeply connected to his native Chieti yet shaped by an extensive international artistic experience, Giuliano Mazzoccante continues to combine technical mastery, refined musicianship, and a broad artistic perspective. His career reflects a commitment to both the great traditions of classical piano and the diverse forms of musical collaboration that bring the art form to life.
