Thomas Greaves to Perform at ModComFest 2026, Celebrating the Music of Max Richter
Born in Long Island, New York, Thomas Greaves has established himself as one of the leading bassoonists of his generation, enjoying an international career as an orchestral musician, chamber performer, and educator. Since 2006, he has served as Assistant Principal Bassoon of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC), while also performing regularly with the contemporary ensemble Barcelona 216 and the Julià Carbonell Symphony Orchestra of the Lands of Lleida.
Prior to his appointment in Barcelona, Greaves spent eight years as Co-Principal Bassoon and Contrabassoon of the Galicia Symphony Orchestra, where he also performed regularly at the prestigious Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Italy. His orchestral career has taken him across Europe and beyond, including a season as Principal Bassoon of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in New Zealand, with which he toured extensively throughout the country.
Alongside his orchestral work, Greaves has made a significant contribution to music education. As Professor of Bassoon and Contrabassoon with the Youth Orchestra of Galicia, he played an important role in the development of what has become one of Spain's leading orchestral training institutions.
His musical journey began at the age of nine at the BOCES Conservatory in his hometown before he was accepted, at just sixteen, into the prestigious Juilliard School as a pre-college student under the guidance of Mark Goldberg. Two years later, he continued his studies at Juilliard as a scholarship recipient of the Liberace Foundation, studying with renowned bassoonist Frank Morelli.
Greaves has also appeared at some of the world's most prestigious music festivals, including Tanglewood, the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival in Connecticut, further cementing his reputation as a versatile and internationally respected performer.
At ModComFest 2026, audiences will have the opportunity to experience Thomas Greaves' exceptional artistry in a programme dedicated to the evocative and immersive music of Max Richter. His refined musicianship, expressive sound, and extensive orchestral experience promise to make his appearance one of the highlights of this year's festival.
